No matter what type of seeds you're working with, it can help to germinate your seeds to get them ready for planting. Germination, means the sprouting of a seed, spore, or other reproductive body, usually after a period of dormancy. The absorption of water, the passage of time, chilling, warming, oxygen availability, and light exposure may all operate in initiating the process. Although this is not required for planting, Germination can help your grow get off to a good solid start, by only planting seeds that have successfully germinated.

It's important to maintain your seeds in a room temperature space, preferably dark, and soak your seeds in tap water for 22-24 hours, then tap the tops of the seeds to see which ones sink to the bottom of your cup. Seeds that do not sink, discard; then transfer the sunken seeds to a damp paper towel for 2-3 days.

Once every day, gently add more water to the paper towel to encourage the embryo to seek out it's food source. Too much water on the paper towel or too cold of temperatures in the nearby space may make the embryo too comfortable to leave the safety and security of it's shell. Once successful germination occurs, you can expect to see a "Tap Root" grow out of the seed in search for more nutrition.

Plant that seed with the Tap Root downward, inside a damp rockwool cube or moistened soil and push the seed into your grow medium so that the seed sinks at least 1/2" down, then cover the top of the seed gently with your medium.

Once your seedlings start standing on their own, you can gradually increase the lighting within your grow space to encourage their vertical growth. Remember to add 90% nutrient strength for up to 10 gallons of water; and that should last you for 3 weeks worth of feedings before flush and refresh of water & nutrients.
